CGTA History

The Company was founded in 1973 by Charles G. Turner, P.Eng. This was a period in Canada and Ontario that had experienced a large increase in its need for coal, natural gas and bunker oil firing boilers. Various professional engineering specialists who had thermal generation experience over many years at Ontario Hydro joined the company. They brought experience in boilers, pulverized coal fuel firing, combustion controls, steam turbines/generators, boiler water treatment, electrical high voltage transmission and distribution systems. This enabled the CGTA core engineers to gain vast amounts of knowledge and experience in the utility industry.

During the late 1980’s, CGTA migrated their engineering knowledge to the mid-size combined cycle and cogeneration plants that were established in Ontario, New Brunswick and Alberta. Experience in the large frame combustion turbines and HRSG’s was earned across North America in the 1990’s and early 2000’s, with this experience applied to the large combined cycle power block expansion in Ontario during the mid to late 2000’s. CGTA continues to apply this experience for ongoing maintenance and operations engineering support, and to the Ontario feed-in-tariff and behind-the-meter programs performing studies and detailed engineering design for cogeneration facilities and simple cycle reciprocating engines gensets.

CGTA’s high voltage electrical design and commissioning experience has carried through to the renewables sectors in Ontario for wind and solar projects.

The client base has found CGTA’s engineering and maintenance knowledge valuable to their facilities ongoing operations. CGTA continues to expand and train its staff to provide engineering services to these clients who demand experienced engineering.

The ongoing continuity in the depth of experience and knowledge makes CGTA uniquely qualified to provide the highest quality engineering services to its clients.
